I had always been interested in field of art. A part of me also longed to somehow incorporate a desire for entrepreneurship into this ever-evolving field of art. When I was 20 years of age I moved to Los Angeles, California from Mobile, Alabama to pursue these two dreams. I enrolled in a 5-month makeup school program which ultimately led me to an event and a makeup method that would change the course of my life forever.
An opportunity to work on a feature film presented itself during the last month of my makeup school instruction. Soon after beginning filming the director visited our makeup trailer and informed everyone, we were to stop what we were doing and come back on Monday to start the filming over; he had decided to use a high-definition camera to shoot the rest of the film. He asked the key makeup artist if she and her assistants knew how to do airbrush makeup, since it was basically a requirement for high-definition filming, and she hesitantly said yes. This was on a Thursday and we were to show up Monday and begin airbrushing the entire cast.
I had a friend at makeup school, Jessica Farraday, who fortunately had a family member, Dina Ousley, that owned an airbrush makeup company called Dinair. She gave me the phone number and by some miracle I was able to enroll in that weekends three-day intensive airbrush makeup workshop. The three-day workshop would go on to change my future business trajectory. I knew the first day of learning the Dinair airbrush makeup technique I would be equipped with a craft that would allow for my success within the arts, entertainment, and business industries for years to come.
To hone my craft I was taught how to retail the Dinair products to clients that were interested in looking natural and flawless every day, not just on special occasions. I was able to attend refresher courses on new products or system modifications. Traveling with Dinair for trade shows and special events further added to my tool box of business skills and in turn people skills. Every step of the way I had a think-tank of the best minds in makeup and business at my disposal for any questions or concerns I may have.
Dinair shaped the way that I deal with customers and with competition. Using the Dinair airbrush method you are taught that we are one big family, there is no competition, we are here to help one another succeed in any way possible. With those values at the forefront of every transaction and interaction failure is never an option.
Here I am, nearly two decades later and I am still using the techniques and values that years of working with Dinair has instilled upon me. I have had the great fortune of building and running 8 successful and award-winning retail businesses throughout the last 19 years, and in every single one of those businesses I either offered the Dinair products to others or educated other artists on how to use the system to build their own successful enterprise.
Due to the success airbrush makeup allowed me I had the confidence to return to College 4 years ago and graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration in Finance and a minor in Accounting. Since graduation I was hired at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and have passed all of the required Federal and State registration exams so I can help others achieve their personal financial goals as a Financial Advisor.
I promise you my recent and past achievements would not have been possible if not for the businesses I built with the guidance of the entire Dinair team. Dinair made me who I am today and allowed me to support myself and my family through nearly two decades.
